Parent Effectiveness Training

PARENT EFFECTIVENESS TRAINING (or P.E.T.), first published in 1970, remains an essential parenting tool. P.E.T. introduces concepts of acceptance through active listening, changing unacceptable behavior through environment changes, and transforming conflict through a shift in perspective where nobody loses. With this method, children are motivated to carry out solutions themselves; their thinking skills are developed; there is less hostility in the home environment; the point of the problem is reached more quickly; and the need for parental power is eliminated.
